Sooner than later we can leave that behind No better than the neighbors you know we can never hide My partner My dear Love of my life I’m trying tonight It would be alright if I turn out the lights The landscape would fade if I closed my eyes Don’t be a waster Be thankful for all we got I’m grateful and the table looks great with all that you bought My only friend here Behind the walls of my heart I will let you in It will be alright if I could turn out the lights The skyline would fall if I could close my eyes With your hand in mine I know we’ll be fine where we are We’ll turn out the lights go outside and see the stars

Simply said I’m a loaded gun What’s in my head should not be done Most of my delusions come from Rainy nights spent alone Could’ve carried Could’ve held on No need to worry now you’re gone Didn’t know what to do Needed a breakthrough What was the hurry? Didn't I say that I was young? Where’s the open ended question? I told you I wanted more control Seemed to be a change in you Could’ve carried Could’ve held on No need to worry now you’re gone I didn’t know what to do I needed a breakthrough Didn’t I say that I was young? You could’ve carried You could’ve held on Need to worry now you’re gone You didn’t know what to do We needed a breakthrough What was the hurry? Didn’t I say I was young? …There was a hurry …It’s always the same when you’re young …Oh yes, sad as the sun

Gave up on the moment we couldn’t find Tried to warn you There was no time, no no Gave up on the actions found in story books Cried for it to end soon But no man can decide it Are you there sweet morning waiting on this ship? No, there’s nothing But time to kill Sailed by the ocean’s cue Held down by the water, the wind and the moon A piece of the moon Yay, though the strings have come undone And the air we need defeats us as one All those things I did for you Nothing I would undo Those things you wanted No time to borrow When there is no tomorrow

Wide Awake 03:23
He wanted so much to be like heroes in history Some other man’s identity Preserved for posterity And the whole world would fall under his beck and call Should he explain? He wants it all He lies under the weight of dreams he tries to make his fate while awake Felt so confident for luxury he was born and bred Until the accident And all he should be like some bad movie He lies under the weight of dreams he dies to change his fate while awake And he's wide awake

Holding On 02:42
Stay Please stay Asleep little girl Hold to this The peace of your world All you want to be is in dreams Holding up the air with your hands Holding up the air with your hands Holding up the air with your hands Wild child I see it’s in you Go to sleep Raising up your blood To your crown of your head All you want to be is in dreams Bearing up the world Little hands Holding on Holding on Holding on Holding on

Beauty Queen 04:19
Crystalline like the moons beam Like seeing Springsteen on a magazine gave me away to see all the figures on the movie screen Like a violent thing the dirty scheme of the government watching me I hope I’m safe Cuz I’m long gone I found a way to be lost I give it away hope I can’t find No baby No time to mention but I want the attention like the naked thing on a magazine My beauty queen you’ve grown so close to me You’ve got the right genes to live in my dreams I’ve seen everything you’ve shared with me And I feel safe I’d give it away but I can’t find I found a way when I was lost No baby No time to mention I love the attention

All that I am a brokenhearted man All that I am defenseless in your hands Stay awhile if you can I’ll understand Often this life feels so bad from these things All that is turning around here baby is cold. The leaves have changed and you tell me, “Babe, I can’t stay”
12.
When the hour is lost and you can’t feel it grab on to the Holy Spirit Cuz’ you know He’s coming and all who can feel it know it’s real I’ve found the way to the Father and I want to share it it’s no bother for the words that I have don’t compare In the hour of need, in the hour of hope all I’ve seen can’t give you the scope of the Holy Father and The Spirit and His Son. Yeah I’m trembling now and I want to know When my heart’s opened up I give up control I know I am a child who can fail but I’ve got a man who wants to carry the failure past the goal Yeah my righteousness and my love All of my strength and my hope is for the love of the Holy Father and of His Son
13.
Yeah I know its coming I know it will be here soon Tomorrow morning Maybe at the end of June Yeah I know we couldn’t make it On our own we’re not okay Yeah we gotta’ grown up now And learn to change Soon I know it will be the day All I wanted comes today All we needed everyday Soon I know it will be okay You can take it or leave it But don’t give up on your name You can ask for forgiveness Many times I’ve asked for the same In this life there are dangers Many more miles to go If you need I’ll give you silence When you’re ready let me know Soon I know it will be the day All we wanted comes today All we needed everyday Yeah it comes soon Yeah it comes soon Yeah

Ring the bell come on in and see me in my home sign the waiver at the door in case we use this episode What you want now I know I can’t conform? Famous now I’m buried and alone Where you going I got a need to perform? Famous now I’m buried and alone White house, white fence, white wife Take me up, take it all you can have my life What you see now is I’m no longer my own? Famous now I’m buried and alone Where you going I got a need to perform? Famous now I’m buried and alone Bought the Hollywood lie without western L.A. Fully rich now in decay

about

It can be difficult to communicate pain without sounding despairing. Dark Little Rooms beautifully navigates its turbulent and lovelorn music, promising hope through the bruises.

Dark Little Rooms (DLR) is the song writing vehicle of Scott Crowder. From 2001-2005 Crowder and band alternated between writing, recording and playing shows with the likes of Stellastarr*, French Kicks, Smog & Denali.

Heavily inspired by the reissue only label, Numero Group, Bruce Springsteen's "Nebraska" and the posthumous release of Jeff Buckley’s “My Sweetheart The Drunk”, Crowder set off to present his latest work of home recordings to a larger audience and enlisted the talents of Jeff Lipton at Peerless Mastering to best capture and present the albums sessions.

All sessions were recorded on a Tascam 388 8 track recorder in the various apartments and homes that Crowder lived in while he and his wife called Richmond, VA home.

REVIEWS:

"9.3 out of 10 rating. Dark Little Rooms is the vision of singer/songwriter Scott Crowder, an ancient soul who sites Scott Walker and Nick Cave as inspirations. Crowder is in touch with personal pain and misery, and his distinct way of carrying you into his world is intoxicating. Drum machines haunt "Sooner Than Later" and "Leslie & Main", opening Foolish Beauty with a mechanical ambiance that wallows in near-perfection. His soulish vocals sweeten the soundscapes and weave contradicting emotions together in a tight knot. In some ways, Dark Little Rooms sounds like a 8-track home recording project, but in every good sense. By that I mean that these songs are kept to their bare essentials...pure and simple. And you're left to gaze through the window to witness something on the verge of turning exceptionally great. Crowder's vocal take on "Didn't I Say That I Was Young" could pass as a Passengers/U2 track. In fact, much of this album is reminiscent of mopy, experimental U2. The drones of "With Help From Bees" are propelled by cheap drum machines and hazy vocal mix-ups, yet like many of these songs, the final outcome is much greater than the sum of their parts. "Beauty Queen" is Crowder's ode to hip-hop, with a steady back beat and a rhythmic spoken vocal. His sense of soul is heavy and magnetic, and right after a groove driven track like the aforementioned "Beauty Queen", the piano driven Nick Cave-esque ballad "All That I Am" blazes with passion and yearning. Foolish Beauty is one of the best debut's you'll hear in 2007. 14 tracks of solid gold. For fans of singers and musicians!"
- From the Black & White Magazine

"(Foolish Beauty) is a remarkable voyage through the desperation and somber charm of all life has to give and take away. Put Foolish Beauty on late at night and let it transport you somewhere you never thought to go."
- From SOUND AS LANGUAGE music blog

"Listening to Dark Little Rooms is like being the parish priest hearing the confessions of the lost, the lonely and the clinically depressed. This is music to listen to alone at night after you've just lost your job, you've drank a couple of bottles of Vodka, your lover has left you for a much younger model, and you put everything on black and it came up red. It won't cheer you up but it may make you realize that there are people even more depressed than you. Listen to Dark Little rooms they may just save your life."
- From the UK blog THE DEVIL HAS THE BEST TUNA

"Dark Little Rooms 2003 self-released eponymous CD was an impressive piano-driven album featuring the soulful vocals of Scott Crowder. Three years later, Crowder is back with a solo album that is a slight departure from Dark Little Rooms but it does not completely break away from the blue eyed soul sound. Foolish Beauty is a hauntingly beautiful effort that blends a modern electronic influenced sound with spiritual vocals full of pain, longing, and regret. ‘Devotion Song’ and ‘Nothing I Wouldn’t Do’ definitely stand out as the album’s best tracks and draw comparisons to U2 and Tom Waits."
